On September 18, 2024, the Girls With Period Initiative held an impactful sensitization session at Shoms International School and Prudence City College, aimed at raising awareness for the upcoming Royal Daisy event on October 30, 2024.

Menstruation

The session began at Shoms International School at 9:00 AM, with nearly 50 students in attendance. Jennifer Odoh, our operations intern, introduced the purpose of the Girls With Period Initiative and shared important information about menstrual health and hygiene. She emphasized the importance of seeking medical advice for any unusual symptoms during their periods.

Jennifer’s personal stories, including her own experience with her first period, resonated deeply with the students. Her relatable anecdotes sparked engaging questions and discussions, making the session truly enlightening.

Following Jennifer’s presentation, Irene, our Administrative Executive, conducted a hands-on demonstration on the proper use and disposal of sanitary pads. She explained the significance of good menstrual hygiene and concluded by sharing details about the Royal Daisy event, igniting excitement among the students. Their eager inquiries about outfits, logistics, and the event venue were met with prompt responses from Irene.

The media team captured the moment with group photos and interviews with selected students. We also presented cartons of pads to the school for emergency needs before leaving for Prudence City College at 10:25 AM.

Upon arriving at Prudence City College at 11:15 AM, we were warmly welcomed by over 50 enthusiastic students ready to learn. Jennifer reiterated the organization’s mission and shared her first-period story, emphasizing that menstruation is natural and nothing to be ashamed of. Her account, especially the touching moment of her brother buying her first sanitary pad, inspired confidence in the students.

Irene provided another detailed pad demonstration and highlighted the importance of proper menstrual hygiene. She concluded the session by informing the students about the Royal Daisy event and what to expect, which sparked great interest from the students.

After the session, the media team took more group photos and conducted interviews. We presented additional cartons of pads to Prudence City College to support students in need, wrapping up the day at around 12:30 PM.

We are deeply grateful to Shoms International School and Prudence City College for their support and for allowing us to make a positive impact on the lives of their students.
